An Uplift, not a Facelift!
Ultherapy is a new type of non-surgical, non-invasive procedure that uses ultrasound and the body’s own natural healing process to lift, tone, and tighten loose skin on the brow, neck, and under the chin.

The only FDA-approved procedure to lift skin on these hard-to-treat areas, Ultherapy uses the safe, time-tested energy of ultrasound to stimulate the deep structural support layers of the skin—including those typically addressed in a surgical facelift—without disturbing the surface of the skin tightening.

The Beauty of Ultherapy
Results will unfold over the course of 2-3 months and some patients have reported continued improvement for up to 6 months. While ultrasound does not duplicate the results of surgery, Ultherapy has proven to be an inviting alternative for those who are not yet ready for surgery.
Natural, Noticeable Results
Now there’s a way to stand firm in the face of gravity—on your terms. With Ultherapy, there’s no downtime, no foreign substances, no radical change; just a healthy revving-up on the inside for a natural, noticeable effect on the outside.
With Ultherapy, you can go about your day after a single, 30-60 minute in-office procedure.
You may notice a short-term “boost” but the natural process of creating new and more elastic collagen builds over time—much like the effect that exercise has on building muscle
(but without the multiple workouts!).

The effect of focused ultrasound energy on the growth of new collagen over time.

Frequently Asked Questions about Ultherapy

  • What is Ultherapy? 1. What is Ultherapy?
  • Our faces can tell many stories, and while wrinkles might say “experience,” droopiness can say “tired.” Surgery has always been an option, but now there’s Ultherapy, a noninvasive ultrasound treatment for counteracting the effects of time and gravity on your skin.

The beauty of the 30-minute Ultherapy procedure is that it uses the body’s own regenerative response to gently and gradually restore memory to the skin and underlying tissue support.

“After the Ultherapy treatment, my skin looked firmer…it felt tighter. The sagging I had noticed before was eliminated.” Clinical Study Patient

  • How does the Ultherapy procedure work? 2. How does the Ultherapy procedure work?
  • As with other ultrasound procedures, a smooth applicator placed upon your skin projects an image onto a screen that allows your practitioner to plan where the energy will be directed. This same applicator is then used to deliver low levels of focused heat at just the right depth below the skin to achieve a positive effect, all the while leaving the surface of your skin undisturbed.
Your skin’s response to the energy is to stimulate the growth of new collagen. A gradual tightening occurs, resulting in a natural lift of the skin over time.

  • How is this procedure different than other non-surgical skin tightening procedures? 3. How is this procedure different than other non-surgical skin tightening procedures?
  • Ultherapy is the only skin rejuvenation procedure that uses ultrasound for non-invasive skin sculpting. The ability to use such a trusted technology to treat only the most relevant and responsive tissue helps ensure both safe and satisfying results.

  • What does it feel like? 4. What does it feel like?
  • Comfort levels vary from person to person, but it is unlikely you will need pain medication during the procedure. Many patients describe the sensation as momentary prickling or heat beneath the skin. This is the ultrasound energy being delivered into the tissue, which is how Ultherapy lifts and tightens the skin.

  • What can I expect afterwards? 5. What can I expect afterwards?
  • You are able to return to your normal activities right away, and there are no special measures you need to take. You skin may appear a bit flushed immediately after the treatment, but any redness should disappear in a matter of hours.

  • Is Ultherapy safe? 6. Is Ultherapy safe?
  • Is Ultherapy safe?
Ultrasound energy has been used in the field of medicine for over 50 years, and clinical trials have demonstrated the safety of this latest application.

As with any medical procedure, there are general safety considerations, which your physician will review with you.

  • What kind of results can I expect? 7. What kind of results can I expect?
  • With just one treatment, the regenerative process is initiated, but the full effect will build gradually over the course of two to three months.

In the FDA clinical trial, nine out of ten patients had a noticeable, significant lift of the brow line. This resulted in reduced skin laxity on the eyelid and a more open, youthful look to the eyes overall. Patients reported firmer, tighter, better-fitting skin in other areas of the face and neck as well. There isn’t a non-invasive way to produce the dramatic effects of surgery, but finally there is a non-invasive approach for significant skin tightening and actual lifting.

What kind of results can I expect?

  • Who is a good candidate for Ultherapy? 8. Who is a good candidate for Ultherapy?
  • A good candidate for Ultherapy is someone with skin that has “relaxed” to the point of looking, and often feeling, less firm. A lowered eyebrow line or sagging skin on the eyelids, for instance, is often the first sign of “maturing” skin. Typically, those in their thirties and older who have mild to moderate skin laxity are candidates.
While Ultherapy is not a replacement for a surgical face lift, there are many people who want some lifting but are not ready for surgery, either mentally, financially or logistically. There also are younger people who want to “stay ahead of the game” as well as those looking to prolong the effects of cosmetic surgery.

  • How long does the treatment take? 9. How long does the treatment take?
  • A full face treatment takes 45-60 minutes, and a partial face or brow lift treatment can take around 30 minutes—neither with any downtime.

  • How long until I see results? 10. How long until I see results?
  • Patients may enjoy some initial effect but the ultimate lifting and toning will take place over 2-3 months, as tired collagen is replaced with new, more elastic collagen. As this collagen-building process continues, further improvements can appear up to 6 months following a procedure.

  • How long do results last? 11. How long do results last?
  • Patients treated with Ultherapy still have fresh young collagen after a year’s time following the procedure, but skin continues to age. Future touch-up treatments can help keep pace with the aging process, which varies by individual.

  • Will I need more than one treatment? 12. Will I need more than one treatment?
  • The majority of patients only need one treatment; however, some may benefit from more than one treatment (depending on how much laxity they have and their body’s own biological response to the ultrasound and the collagen-building process).

  • Will I feel the ultrasound during the treatment? 13. Will I feel the ultrasound during the treatment?
  • Yes. What you are feeling during the treatment is actually tiny amounts of focused ultrasound energy being deposited below the surface of the skin.

  • Is Ultherapy painful 14. Is Ultherapy painful?
  • Comfort thresholds vary from patient to patient, but there can be some discomfort while the ultrasound energy is being delivered. This is temporary and a positive signal that the collagen-building process has been initiated.
We will consult with you prior to your skin treatment to make your experience as pleasant as possible. Patients typically leave comfortable and excited about the benefits to come!

  • Are there any side effects 15. Are there any side effects?
There may be slight redness for up to an hour or so following the treatment, and a small percentage of patients may have slight swelling, tingling or tenderness to touch, but these are mild and temporary in nature. There is always the possibility for other less common post-procedural effects, which we’ll review with you.
